Meetings Scheduled in Norfolk and Hampton on July 18 and 19, Respectively
RICHMOND — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will host citizen information meetings regarding the agency’s study of the Interstate 64 Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) corridor from I-664 in Hampton to I-564 in Norfolk (approximately 11 miles).
The purpose of the study is to identify transportation needs within the corridor and to evaluate the impact of proposed improvements to meet those needs. An Environmental Impact Statement is being prepared as part of this study in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The study is scheduled for completion in 2014.
As part of the NEPA process and to reach out to local residents, two citizen information meetings are scheduled. The purpose of these meetings is to give people an opportunity to provide input into the scope of issues to be addressed in the study such as purpose and need, improvement concepts and environmental considerations. The meetings will feature an open house format with displays, and representatives from VDOT will be present to answer questions regarding the study.
The first meeting will be held on July 18, 2011, between 4 and 7 p.m. at Willoughby Elementary School, 9500 Fourth View Street, Norfolk, VA 23503.
The second meeting will be held on July 19, 2011, between 4 and 7 p.m. at Jane Bryan Elementary School, 1021 N. Mallory Street, Hampton, VA 23663.
Additional information on the project can be viewed on VDOT’s website at http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/hamptonroads/i-64_hrbt_study.asp.
