Carolyn McPherson

Carolyn McPherson is a non-profit consultant specializing in assisting organizations to focus on their strategic plans, improve their efficiency, and increase their financial stability. She currently is the Executive Director of Light Rail Now, Inc. a grassroots organization creating excitement and support for light rail as part of the transportation solution for Virginia Beach. She is also the administrator for the Dragas Foundation Homeless Families Initiative.

Carolyn was the Interim Executive Director of the Center for Hope and New Beginnings, a homeless shelter in Suffolk, VA. Previously, she was Executive Director of Samaritan House, the largest shelter in Virginia.

It is Carolyn’s commitment to helping individuals in our community that attracted her to move from the corporate environment. Her prior experience was in managed health care. She was Senior Vice President Business Development and Strategic Planning for Amerigroup Corporation as it grew from a start-up to one of the largest national managed care companies. Prior to that she was instrumental in the development of new managed care products that still serve as models across the country.

Carolyn has experience with a number of community based organizations in other communities across the country. She was recently recognized by Inside Business as one of the outstanding Women in Business and has been an honoree of the YWCA Women of Distinction as well as the inaugural Hampton Roads recipient of the Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence award.
